St. Chad’s House is a mid-terrace Victorian house on Southfields in Leek, which belonged to Hermione Warren, a faithful member of the congregation at All Saints Church. In her will Miss Warren left the house to the care of the Hermione Warren trustees as a place of healing and retreat. There is a chapel at the house where worship takes place in the Celtic tradition. There is also a growing library, with books on the healing ministry and on Celtic spirituality, as well as some general theology and other subjects. On the first floor there is also a lounge and sitting room where guests can relax, read, listen to music or just enjoy the view across Ladydale, a small wooded valley opposite the house.
We can accommodate up to about 12 people for a quiet day, and there are enough rooms for up to 4 small groups. We can provide a home-cooked lunch for groups coming for the day.
Suggested donation levels for use of the house are available on request.
Leek is a pleasant market town (Wednesday is market day) within easy reach of excellent walking country in the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District. There are lots of antiques shops in Leek, and on Saturdays there is an antiques market on the Market Square. The house is just two minutes walk from the town centre, yet being on the edge of the valley gives the impression of being in the middle of the country.
The Vision
To be a place of prayer for healing of individuals, communities and nations
To be a place where people can come for quiet and spiritual refreshment
To be a place where soul friends meet and share their spiritual journeys
To be a place that provides facilities for studies in Celtic Spirituality
Practicalities:
To find the house: go to the top of Leonard Street and across Southbank Street onto Westfields. Continue along Westfields, past the entrance to Ballington House, (you will see large black gates on your right hand side) and you will see the rear of the terrace which is Southfields on your left. Continue along the track as it bears left and we are the third house along the terrace.
The house is at 3, Southfields. Parking in front of the house is limited, so for groups coming just for the day it is probably better to park where you can in one of the side streets nearby and walk. There is a public car park at the bottom of Leonard Street, but parking is restricted to three hours at a time. Parking is free up to 9.30am and after 3.30pm.
There are steps to the front of the house. There is flat access via the rear. Adjustments have been made to accommodate wheelchairs but wheelchair users are advised to check the dimensions of doorways before visiting. The first floor is only accessible by stairs.
