About St Paul’s Church

Team Vicar: Revd Matt Malins
Church Wardens: Iain Hall & Kay Pickford

Children and Families’ Worker: Dr Melanie Newton
Parish Administrator: Tina Mycock

Built in 1971 with a seating capacity of 80, the daughter-church of St Paul grew from its two original homes, the first site in the early days of the Parish being at the Church school in Ball Haye Green, moving in 1934 when the new school of Beresford Memorial was built. It is a multi-purpose building serving both Church and Community on the eastern extremities of the Parish. Both the Voluntary Aided school and the Vicarage stand in the same grounds as the church. The building is used extensively throughout the week by members of the local community for a variety of events.

During the refurbishment of St Luke’s, when the building was closed for six months, all worship took place at St Paul’s. Until that point there had only been a small congregation for an early service, together with an equally small number gathering in the evening. When people moved back into St Luke’s, a fresh vision was captured by some for a ‘Church Plant’. A small contingent remained at St Paul’s in order to develop some regular worship that would appeal to the largely un-churched area in which the building is situated. Three years on, the congregation has grown from the original half-dozen to a regular fifty adults, and some children. The whole service is planned and run by the lay-team, who also take on other initiatives for the further spiritual development of those they serve.

St Paul’s Church works closely with St Luke’s Church, Fountain Street, and many of our activities involve both congregations. Please check on the location given with each of our events

Church Groups

St Paul ’s Kid’s Club

At St Paul ’s Church we have St Paul ’s Kid’s Club which takes place during our Family Service at 11.00 a.m. every Sunday. We begin our service all together but during the early part of the service our children aged 9 and under leave for their own special activities. Towards the end of the service we all come back together in church and share with everyone what we have been doing.

On the 1st Sunday of the month we often all stay together for an All Age Family Service.  We also occasionally have Holy Communion within the Family Service.

We learn more about Jesus together through play, prayer, drama, stories and crafts. Our aim is to make the children feel valued members of our church and to nurture them in the Christian faith through engaging activities which are appropriate to their age.
